Pingyao | Shanxi | China

Pingyao is a county in central Shanxi province in China. It is located approximately 715 kilometres southwest of Beijing. During the Qing Dynasty, Pingyao was a financial centre of China. Its history dates back some 2,700 years, and is one of the best preserved ancient cities in the known world. The ancient city, renowned for its well-preserved city walls, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and major tourist attraction. The ancient city is still inhabited by some 50,000 residents. An interesting city, but only for a day or two, a lot of walls make the city a bit closed. Also here the tourist industry is taking over the city and makes it less authentic in a way. I stayed at the Yide Hotel which is a very charming hotel with great location and staff.
